Now that I have graduated from college, I have my first wedding already on the calendar. One of my best friends is getting married over Labor Day weekend back in Wake Forest. This is fun and exciting for me because it'll be my first real wedding that I get to go to on my own. My first wedding was my cousin's wedding so it's not like I had a choice.
With the wedding, the bride and groom to be have already set up their gift registries at numerous places like Target, Pottery Barn, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, and Belk. Since it is their wedding, they made wise choices with their registries. When I mean wise choices, I mean the most expensive stuff that you can possibly find at the appropriate stores. They chose a nice dresser and bed frame set from Pottery Barn valued at over $2489. Granted if I was getting married, I would go crazy with the scanner that they give you and scan everything in the store. They did put a few inexpensive things on the registries for those people without full time jobs like me.
As a good friend of the bride and acquaintance of the groom, I'm thinking about getting the lettuce knife that they put on one of the registries that cost $3.49 plus tax. As a joke, I would box it up all nice and pretty and give it to them in person and make them open it and think that the knife was the only thing I got them. In reality, I'm going to get them something decent on the list as their real gift. However the sooner I do the shopping, the more choices I have on the registries. The monogrammed dinner set looked pretty cool and nice.

Welcome to Blairstone!
So even though my future boss hasn't had the best experience at Blairstone, I called just now to see if they had an update about my application with them. With little over a month left, I was getting worried that I wouldn't have a place to live when I got to Tallahassee. The person at Blairstone, Shannon, was very nice and told me that I had gotten approved. Looks like Steven, Jessica, and I have a roof over our heads!

Questions...
One of my future roomies (Jessica Stein) and I were on the phone tonight talking about our living arrangments, Tallahassee life and our grad assistantships for next year. We talked about everything and anything possible about those three areas.
For grad assistantships, Jessica will be working with advising training or something like that and I'll be working with the Student Activities Center (SAC). Now, she's already asked about dress code with her office and they told her that since she's still a student, she can wear what she normally wears. While I thought about it, I never asked my boss about it. wink wink. If you are reading this post, feel free to comment Kelly. lol. We can do a formal e-mail exchange if need be. I also was looking stuff up already and noticed that Seminole Sensation Week is Aug 19th-23rd. Now if you facebook stalk me or have access to my personnel files, you'll know that August 23th also happens to be my 22nd birthday. Between SS Week and my birthday, don't expect me at work on August 24th. I'll be sleeping in.
As for Tallahassee, I don't know where anything in town is. All I know is that Blairstone is right next door to the mall. Jessica and I will be hitting up the mall on paydays. lol. Also, we both like sushi so we're going to have to find the one sushi restaurant that is going to get our business for the next two years of our lives at least. Now, I've started talking to a guy online. He seems really nice and he's even offered to show me around town. I can't wait to hang out and get to know him better.
Finally, living arrangments. Grrr.... Can I say that Blairstone is taking forever to approve our apartment application. We submitted the paperwork over a month ago (i think). We still haven't heard anything. We are supposed to move in on or before July 3rd so I can start work on July 6th. In addition to that, we need to know some essential things like whether or not we have light fixtures or blinds. Crucial things because we don't want to live in the dark or total sun in Florida. I guess that's why they started Target and stores. Jess and I are going to be frequent Target shoppers.

Future High School Reunions
So as Hazel and I were talking about our little get together tonight, we started talking about our ten year high school reunion. I know it's a bit premature because we're only on year four but still. Things have changed since high school and it was fun to gossip about people.
For instance, there is the typical jock, geek, beauty queen, etc. in every class. With the invention of Facebook, we could peer into people's lives without them knowing. Can I just say that some people are ugly now? There are some of the "preppy and cool" kids who are fat and ugly. They used to be the most in shape people in our class and now they look like drunk hobos. I get that you joined a fraternity and got a beer belly but that's not good looking. I joined a fraternity too but you don't see me gaining 20+ pounds. It's a shame because they were the good looking guys too. :P
Second, I can't wait to hear about what everyone will be doing by then. Six years from now, we'll have doctors, lawyers, a student affairs professional (woot!) and much more. But who will be the one that is trying to cure cancer or AIDS? We went to enloe (the smart kids' school), it'll be natural that people go into medicine or law. I want to know those random people and what they did with their lives.
Third, I wonder if anything funny will go down. I read a news article on msnbc.com about high school reunions the other day. Apparently, people have paid other people to go in their place. I would rather just skip the reunion than have some stand-in. In addition to that, one senior class president (the person who usually coordinates the reunions) paid a random person to go to the reunion and pretend that she was in the graduating class. I think that's funny because half of the class insisted that they remembered the girl while the other half insisted that she never attended the school. I wonder if Sonya will try that.
Finally, I can't wait to judge people. I think the whole point of a reunion is to judge people. If I haven't mentioned it enough, everybody is constantly judging others by looks, careers, etc. Reunions are just an excuse for everybody to get together and judge each other. You can see how the jocks became the fat ugly people (already happening) or the fat ugly people being the drop dead gorgeous people.

Last Campus Tour...
I didn't think of it this morning but I just realized that I potentially gave my very last campus tour of NC State today. I'm so proud of the fact that I have been giving campus tours for the last three years of my undergrad experience. The wealth of knowledge that I have gained from being an University Ambassador and Orientation Counselor has taught me so much about the University.
Being able to share all of that information with prospective students and family members is just so fun. Making them laugh whenever appropriate makes it even better.
I also want to credit my two biggest partners in crime. Leslie Hewes taught me everything I needed to know during my sophomore year and then Shaylee Norton comes along and I teach her everything I know and we tour for two years together. You know you make a great team when you can finish each others' sentences or when you have a random third Ambassador who says something wrong and you can look at each other and know what you are thinking.

Day After Graduation
It's the day after graduation and guess what...I'm bored. The earliest I can work at Lowes Foods is next Sunday so that's a whole week of sitting on my butt doing nothing. I have some stuff to do at State for the next three days but Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are going to boring as well.
I can officially say that I'm ready to move to Tallahassee. I'm sure there's more going on there then here in Cary. I could lay out by the pool and read a book or just bask in the sun.
Finally after opening my diploma cover that my department gave me, I realized that if I do not go pick up my diplomas on May 20-22nd, I will have to wait until the third week of June before I get them in the mail. I didn't drop over $220 on a nice NC State diploma frame for it to sit in the box. I will have to make sure that I go pick it up in May.

The start of a new chapter...
As I close a chapter in my life, I am about to start a new one. As I make the move from NC State to Florida State University, friends have asked me to keep in touch. One person suggested that I start blogging so that it would be easier for everybody. I never really thought about blogging but I thought it would be fun and interesting. It would also be more convenient for me rather than telling everybody what I am doing. Granted, I truly wonder how long I can keep this up. Oh well...
Today was truly an exciting day for me. After four years of being an undergrad, I have finally graduated from NC State. I'm glad that I didn't have be a 5th year senior or super senior. No offense to my friends who are one. The big commencement ceremony was a blast. I don't know why people criticize it. It's a whole environment because you get to be with fellow graduating seniors, Masters students, and Doctoral students. Also, we got to observe the commencement speaker get interrupted by a random video of some surfer named Dusty Payne surfing. It was a good prank by whoever did it. Finally, you got to hear John Mickey give an awesome speech.
Now that I've graduated, I'll be Selby Alvin Lo, B.S. It does look weird though. I guess Selby Alvin Lo, M.S. looks a little better. I can't wait for that though. I'll be there in two years. If you don't already know, I will be starting school in August at Florida State University. I will be pursuing my Masters degree in Higher Education. My graduate assistantship is with the Student Activities Center located in Oglesby Union. I will work with Student Organizations and the Student Organization Advisory and Review Board. I will move down in the first week of July to get started with that.
To wrap up this starting entry in my blog, I just want to thank all the friends, staff, and faculty that I have come to know at NC State. I want to thank everyone of you. It's been an amazing ride. We've created memories that will last a lifetime from climbing mountains in China to staying up late at night to talk about useless things to serving homeless people in Rome. These are opportunities that I would not have been able to have if I didn't go to State. THANKS!
